With the Military Order No. 2 of April 29, 1945, the 2nd Armored Brigade was established in Plovdiv. The composition of the brigade included: 2 assault companies from Haskovo, 1 tank company from Sofia, 1 associated and one reconnaissance company from Samokov, headquarters, technical, logistics and other services and units. In 1950, the brigade moved from a battalion to a regimental organization and received a new military postal number and numbering - the 11th Tank Brigade. It remained with this numbering until the end of its existence. The organizational and staff composition of the brigade consisted of: one tank regiment, two motorized rifle regiments, one howitzer artillery regiment, one anti-aircraft artillery division and the corresponding headquarters companies. The first commanders of the brigade during the Plovdiv period were: Colonel Assen Marinov Surdulov - from 1945 to 1947.
